Free to be…

Yesterday I watched this half  hour video. It needs to be watched. It needs to be talked about. It needs to be shared. This man, Joseph Kony, must be stopped.

All children deserve to feel safe, happy and loved. They deserve a childhood in which they are encouraged, supported and free to be themselves.

We can make a difference. Raise awareness.

Atlanta Baby Photographer | Have an easygoing weekend!

Keegan Oliver – Day 4.

Atlanta Family Photographer | Another perfect, little nephew.

” A new baby is the beginning of all things – wonder, hope, a dream of possibilities.” – Eda J. Le Shan

My sister and her husband welcomed their second child and second son into the world on February 27th at 9:22p.m.  I was on Gavin duty (their 3 year old) so I was unable to be at the hospital and was literally about to burst open with excitement when they called, ok – truth be told – they texted, to give me the news. I simply could not wait for the next day to arrive so I could go and meet my new, squishy little nephew. I felt like a kid on Christmas morning.

Honestly, being able to witness Gavin meeting his baby brother for the very first time was one of the most beautiful moments I have ever experienced. What an incredible journey they have in front of them as brothers.

I can not wait until we have proper photos taken of little Keegan, this Sunday, when my friends Carrie Sandoval and Brittany Woodall of Baby as Art travel here to capture him. What an awesome gift that will be.

Welcome to the world little buddy. Your “G” ( that is what my nieces and nephews call me) is already completely in love with you. <3

The Happy Traveler | An afternoon at the beach.

On the first full day of my visit with Deb Schwedhelm and family  I was really itching to take some photos of her sweet kids. So that afternoon, after the kids got home from school, we took them down to a small stretch of beach. We were blessed with the most beautiful pastel light. So super yummy!! We really got some great images! Enjoy! :)

Stay tuned for more images from my trip to Tampa.

The Happy Traveler | The Schwedhelm Family

This family, belonging to my amazing friend  and fellow photographer Deb Schwedhelm, are five of my very favorite people. I have been enjoying a wonderful week with them at their home in Tampa, FL and we decided to go out one afternoon so I could capture a few photos for them. We had such a great time even though it was windy and pretty cold out. Her kids are always such troopers!

I adore this family and I sincerely hope that these images have captured the adoration they share for one another.  Thank you guys for always making me feel so loved and welcome. Already counting down the days until next time.

Please stay tuned for more images from my visit. :)

The Happy Traveler | Australia – Sorrento – Mornington Penninsula

On this day, we traveled with my friend Rachel Devine and her family to celebrate Rachel’s birthday. Carrie, Britt and I wanted to get out of the city and really experience some of Australia’s awesome beauty.  They took us to Sorrento which is on the Mornington Pennisula. I had not seen Rachel’s 3 kiddos for over 2 years so I was beyond excited to get to cuddle them and get them in front of my camera. Her oldest, Gemma, and I have always had a special bond and it was so awesome to be reunited with my little buddy so I just had to add these 2 shots that Rachel captured of us. I will cherish them forever. <3

The Happy Traveler | Melbourne, Australia – Brighton Beach

“Set me free so I can roam the world” – unknown

I saw this quote many, many years ago and fell in love with it. I have no idea where it came from or who said it but I believe it describes the way I feel beautifully. I absolutely love to go and see and experience. Every time I return from a trip I begin the planning of a new one, undoubtedly much to the chagrin of my family members who wish I would just settle down and perhaps find a “real job.”

This past November I was given the amazing opportunity to travel to Australia/New Zealand for 5 weeks. I traveled around for 2 weeks with my good friends (and part-time employers) from Baby as Art, Carrie Sandoval and Brittany Woodall helping out with their workshops in Melbourne and Sydney. Then a magnificent two week visit with my awesome ex-pat friend, Rachel Devine and her beautiful family. THEN a completely awesome visit to Wellington, New Zealand to visit another awesome friend, Peta Mazey. I have been trying to figure out how to share the many, many photos I took while on this incredible adventure and have decided to just post them per day of my visit. It may take a while but please just bear with me. :-)

These photos (taken at Melbourne’s Brighton Beach) were the first I took, 3 days after arriving in Australia (the jet lag was atrocious). I have never been much for taking landscape or sunset shots but I just could not get over how simply breathtaking it was.

Enjoy…and stay tuned. :-)

Fun in Piedmont Park | Atlanta Family Photographer

I met my sister and her family for a little photo shoot this past weekend at one of my very favorite spots in Atlanta. Piedmont Park is located in the middle of Atlanta and is sort of like our very own Central park, but on a much smaller scale. :-) I have always wanted to do a photo shoot there and now that I have gotten a little taste, I definitely want to go back and do more.  My goal for this particular shoot was to get a shot of Gavin in park with the Atlanta skyline in the background.I like the image I got but think it could definitely be improved upon. The light was somewhat difficult and my subject was a little hyper :-) . All the more reason to take him back in the spring when all of the green is coming back and try again, right?

The last image is pretty special. It probably will be the last photo of them taken as a little family of three as my sister is due to give birth to Gavin’s baby brother at the end of February.  I am so excited!!! I can’t wait to meet my new little model, errr, I mean nephew. :-) I am sure Gavin will be thrilled for me to have someone else to focus my camera on and give him a little break once in awhile.  I actually asked him if when the baby was born he thought I should stop taking his photo and only take the new baby’s photo. He said “No! That would make me ‘weally’ sad. You can take his picture on weekends.” Too funny, that kid.

Enjoy!! Hopefully there will be a lot more images coming when I get more of a chance to explore this great Atlanta park!

*Edited to add a couple photos showing what Gavin was really like that day. ;-)

Atlanta Child Photographer | Happy Friday!

I took these photos of 3 year old Clover Jane while in Australia visiting my dear friend, Rachel Devine. We were in a rush and trying to get the kids dressed and out of the house but Clovey had other ideas. She was so blissful and content just jumping on her bed and I just had to stop and grab my camera. Sometimes I think we get so caught up in schedules and to-do lists that we forget to just have a little spontaneous fun every now and again. We could all learn a lot from 3 year olds.  Thanks Clover. :-)

Have a lovely weekend everyone!

Atlanta Family Photographer | Siblings

“To the outside world, we all grow old. But not to brothers and sisters. We know each other as we always were. We know each other’s hearts. We share private family jokes. We remember family feuds and secrets, family griefs and joys. We live outside the touch of time.” – Clara Ortega

I was looking through old family photos recently (see above) and it got me thinking about siblings and how lucky I am to be able to capture the relationships of so many siblings through photographs.  These above photos of me with my older siblings are some that I will cherish forever and I hope the brothers and sisters that I photograph will look back on their images and feel the same way. My sister is pregnant with her 2nd child and 2nd son and I can not wait to be able to document my nephew and his new little brother as they create childhood memories together. What are some of your favorite memories of your siblings?

Check out some of my most recently captured siblings. :)
