Atlanta Family Photographer | Happy Easter (a little late)

I hope everyone is enjoying the start of Spring and the warm weather that seems to have FINALLY set in! I had a great Easter with my family including good food, egg hunting in the rain, lots of relaxing on the front porch, and also lots of me trying to get a few photos of my newly walking, quick moving nephew! All in all a perfect day! As a photographer I always end up behind the camera at most family functions so I try to make it a point to hand the camera over (usually to my brother-in-law) and sneak into a few shots with my mom and sister. I’m always so happy that I did. Make sure that all of you (photographers, moms, dads, etc) try to jump to the other side of the lens once in awhile as well. :)

How was your Easter?

Atlanta Children’s Photographer | You are my sunshine.

My Lily sunshine…

Oh Lily…my little ray of light. She can bring a smile to my face on even the darkest of days. She’s silly, funny, charming, sweet, a little crazy and so full of life it is pretty much bursting out of her. So very grateful for this kid. xoxo

A little Tuesday morning pep talk.

Be awesome, not boring.   :)

Enjoy!

Atlanta Photographer | Imaging USA 2013

Last week I attended PPA’s (Professional Photographers of America) annual conference – Imaging USA. Each year the conference is held in a differet city, and I was thrilled that this year it was in my city of Atlanta! How thoughtful of them, right? :) What an amazing and filled to the brim 3 days it was. Time spent hanging out with old friends (good friends who will walk you to your car late at night in scary downtown Atlanta), meeting new ones and learning from some of the best the industry has to offer.

I have a notebook FULL of  wisdom I gathered during the classes I attended. I’ve read over and over them and decided on the five most important things I learned and I would like to share them with you. I mean after all…sharing is caring, right?!  So here goes.

#1  Schedule time to exercise your creativity. Shoot for you.

#2  Stop comparing yourself to others.

#3  Never stop learning

#4  Know your numbers (this should probably be #1) ;-)

#5  Have a plan and hustle… just when you think you can’t work any harder… WORK HARDER!

This truly an amazing experience.  I feel renewed and excited and ready to take on 2013 and make it my best year yet! :)  I hope you all will join me!

Atlanta Baby Photographer | The littlest sister

The last time I blogged photos of Charlotte she was just a wee little newborn. Now she is 8 months old!! I can’t even believe it. How cute is she? Those big eyes of hers just kill me. So sweet. The whole family is really quite smitten with her (especially her big brother).  I’m sure you can all see why. :-)

Happy Monday!! Enjoy your week everyone!

Atlanta Children’s Photographer | Lily grows.

This is my little cousin, Lily. I am sure you have seen her face around here many times. On her first birthday, back in 2010, I took a photo of her in the green chair that sits in her room. I have taken one on about the same day every year since and plan to continue this little tradition as long as she will let me. It is so much fun to have photo documentation of her on pretty much the same date year after year.  I can’t wait to see year 30! (Actually I can wait because that will mean I am pushing 60! lol)

Lily, it is such a pleasure and honor watching you grow You make my heart so happy. xoxo

Atlanta Children’s Photographer | Little growing up girl

You know those kids that you have a hard time scolding or being mad at even when they are being super naughty? Yep, that is this kid right here. My sweet cousin, Lily. Her parents are going to be in real trouble one day with her — It is quite possible she will get away with just about anything, she is THAT charming. She is also super cute. Cute and charming — yep, REAL trouble. Until then though we will just continue relishing in her constant cuddles, giggles and delightful conversation. Love you sweet girl – don’t grow up too fast. xo

Sometimes you feel like being happy and cooperative…. other days not so much. :-) But hey, I’ll take what I can get from this guy. xo

The Happy Traveler | Embracing the calm before the storm

My nearly two weeks in Tampa was filled with a lot of rainy days. This past Friday evening with the threat of Tropical Storm Isaac looming, Deb and I took the kids out for a little photo shoot down at the bay. I had planned on taking photos ON the beach so as soon as the kids jumped in the water I automatically put my camera down and assumed I was finished shooting. Deb, while in the water with her camera fully submerged and protected in its underwater housing, looked at me and said “What are you doing? Get your camera!” Since the conditions were just right, calm waters, photographers kids trained to understand what a sin splashing your camera truly is… I forged into the water (only about knee deep mind you because well, you know, sharks). :) I am SO glad I did because just look at what I got!  The light was absolutely beautiful as you can see my models were absolutely stunning as well.  Every time I visit with this family I am amazed at how beautiful each and every one of them is, inside and out.

Also, keep visiting Deb’s blog for a post with her images from this day. I think it is really fun to see how differently 2 people can see the same thing. It just shows that everyone has their own perfectly unique view of the world. :)

Thank you again Schwedhelm’s. I love you guys oh so much and can’t wait until the next visit!!

The Happy Traveler | Rainy Days

I am currently in Tampa visiting my dear friend, Deb, and her family. There has been a pretty steady flow of rain since my arrival, so there has not been many chances for photographs. Yesterday we decided we were tired of it.So Deb (armed with her underwater gear) and I (armed with a zip lock bag around my camera) headed out with her kids to play in the puddles. I guess we will have to get used to embracing the raininess since there is a hurricane headed our way. Although, I don’t think my camera can survive rain storms and 80mph winds wrapped in a zip loc bag so maybe I will stay indoors. ;)

Thanks for having me Schwedhelm crew! Love you guys!!
